Herald is a simple and stunning shawl with bias construction, garter stitch and eyelets. This versatile pattern is adjustable to any yarn weight and yardage.

Starting with just one stitch, Herald is knitted diagonally with increases on one side and decreases on the other. Its slightly asymmetric triangle shape is fun to knit and the result is a beautiful and wearable shawl.

What appeals the most in this pattern are the endless options to make it completely yours: an adjustable sizing and an absolute uniqueness depending on the yarn you pick. Petite or huge? Solid, speckled, pastel or bold?

Yarn

One skein of The Uncommon Thread Uncommon Everyday (100% Merino; 402 m / 440 yds per 100 g). Shown in colourway Meadow Grass.

Or approximately 400 m / 437 yds of similar fingering weight yarn.

The pattern includes instructions on how to modify the shawl for any yarn weight and yardage.

The dark blue version is shown with three skeins (612 m / 669 yards) of Woolfolk Sno (100% Merino; 204 m / 223 yds per 50 g).

Needles

Size 4 mm / US 6 circular needle. Or size that gives you pattern gauge.

Shawl is worked flat but I recommend using an 80-100 cm / 32-40 inch circular needle to accommodate the growing number of stitches.

Gauge

20 stitches and 40 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in garter stitch, before blocking

Finished measurements

After blocking

For shawl knitted with 402 m / 440 yards of fingering weight yarn.
